Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 4 (ANI): BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday condemned Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan’s statement, accusing him of “dividing people” on religious sentiments.
Speaking with ANI, Tamilisai Soundararajan questioned Kamal Haasan over targeting Sanatan Dharma, adding that the sentiments of people will be hurt by his statement.
“Kamal Haasan is more thankful to DMK than its own cadres. First, he raised the language issue, dividing people of different states. Now, he is raising the religious issue to divide people on religious sentiments,” the BJP leader said.
“I am asking why you are talking about Sanatan. If he speaks about Sanatan, Udhayanidhi and Stalin will be happy. However, Tamil Nadu people will be unhappy, and not only Tamil Nadu, the sentiments of all Indians who follow that ideology will be hurt… I strongly condemn this,” she added.
Soundararajan’s remark came after Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan said, “Education is the only weapon that can break the chains of dictatorship and Sanatan.”
The Rajya Sabha MP was addressing a gathering at the Agaram Foundation event, where he was speaking about the necessity of education.
“Don’t take anything else in your hands, only education. We cannot win without it, because the majority can make you lose. Majority Fools (Moodargal) will make u lose; knowledge alone will seem defeated and that’s why we must hold on to it (Education) firmly.” Haasan said.
Addressing the challenges in the field of education, he pointed out how the implementation of NEET since 2017 has limited opportunities for many aspiring students. “Even Agaram Foundation, despite its best efforts, cannot help students beyond a point because the law doesn’t allow it. To change the law, we need strength and that strength can only come from education, he said.
Kamal Haasan also shared a recent conversation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin. “Yesterday, I told the Chief Minister that NGOs were not asking for anything like money –they’re only asking for permission to work. He assured me that steps are being taken in that direction. I am proud to be involved in this cause,” he said. (ANI)
